Moral Injury & Military Suicide-iHeart Radio
On March 29, 2019 the CPTG partnered with the Sutter Healthcare military veterans arm to bestow honor and recognition to all Vietnam-era veterans who served and sacrificed long ago. Over 50 veterans, their families, and other veteran organizations, including the California Army National Guard and the Sacramento News Radio station KFBK; hosted by Cristina Mendonsa were also in attendance.
Margaret Irvin, a retired Air Force veteran herself, explained the significance of the ceremony and Sutter Healthcare's commitment to the Veteran community and their families. Dr. Keenan opened the ceremony by addressing the contributions of Vietnam veterans to their communities, political change, and their impact on the clinical field that treats PTSD and Moral Injury. Each veteran was presented with an official pin placed on their lapels by current and decorated NCO's from the CA Army National Guard and provided with a written declaration on the meaning of the symbols on the pin and the ceremonial table in the corner of the room.
The event was truly heartfelt and family-like, ending with a beautiful slide show that included personal photographs taken by a Vietnam US Marine combat veteran, who has healed greatly through his personal work and connection with the core program developed by Dr. Keenan years ago. It was truly a team effort to make this day a special reality. Thank you to all who attended...and most of all to our Vietnam veterans and their families.
